OSCAR auto upload process

OSCAR auto upload process

Hello all
The UK Met office is trying to devise a system to auto upload our Metadata in WMO OSCAR Surface.

We have a suspicion we may be the only Met service using this, mainly based on the issues we are encountering with deployments.

We are very conscious that the more complex our deployments section gets, the more likely that we are developing something bespoke that might not survive the transition to a new system.

A couple of questions:

  1. Is any member already using the auto upload facility in OSCAR, if so are there any lessons learnt?
  2. Is there any information regarding the OSCAR replacement and the form the auto upload process might take. Might this be radically different?
Any assistance and/ or advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Stuart

Dear Stuart,

experts are currently working on a new representation (encoding) of the WIGOS Metadata Standard . WMDRv2 will be based on GeoJSON, not XML. While there may be some backwards compatibility, it may be best to have the new WMDRv2 representation in mind for your auto process.
Experts working on the new representation are aware of the complexities of the current representation you encounter, and are trying to simplify it.

While WMDRv2 has not been finalized yet, it will look different from the WMDRv1 and you may want to take this into account in your auto upload process.

We will make more information available as it becomes available.

with kind regards,
Timo

Hi Timo,

Thanks for sharing the information regarding WMDRv2. Is there any time line of when WMDRv2 will be published and what is the suggested best way for metrological services to monitor communications regarding WMDRv2?

Kind regards,

Dára
